Code Enforcement & Blight Inventory Intern (2 Positions)

The Borough of Donora is seeking two motivated and community-minded summer interns to assist with code enforcement initiatives, blight inventory documentation, and neighborhood improvement efforts throughout the borough. Interns will work directly with Code Enforcement Officer(s) on daily operations and special projects focused on improving the quality of life for residents and strengthening the borough’s ability to pursue future state and federal grant funding.

Position Overview
The internship program is designed to provide hands-on experience in municipal government, community development, planning, and neighborhood revitalization. Interns will assist in building comprehensive property databases, documenting blighted structures, tracking code violations, and supporting ongoing revitalization efforts within the community.

A major objective of the program is the creation and organization of:

  • A borough-wide blight inventory spreadsheet/database
  • A comprehensive code violation tracking spreadsheet/database

The information collected will help support future grant applications, redevelopment planning, demolition funding requests, and long-term community improvement strategies.

Primary Responsibilities
Assist the Code Enforcement Officer with daily field inspections and administrative duties:

  • Photograph properties throughout the borough for documentation purposes
  • Conduct blight and property condition surveys
  • Build and maintain Excel spreadsheets and property databases
  • Research property ownership records and contact information
  • Assist in communicating with property owners regarding violations and compliance
  • Organize files, records, and digital documentation
  • Help identify nuisance properties and quality-of-life concerns
  • Support grant preparation efforts through data collection and reporting
  • Attend meetings or community outreach events as assigned
  • Perform additional municipal support duties as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable working outdoors and walking throughout the borough
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents and property owners
  • Interest in local government, planning, public administration, law enforcement, community development, or related fields preferred
  • Valid driver’s license preferred but not required

Internship Goals
This internship is intended to:

  • Improve neighborhood quality of life
  • Create accurate and organized borough property records
  • Strengthen code enforcement documentation
  • Support redevelopment and revitalization efforts
  • Position the Borough of Donora to pursue additional state and federal grant funding opportunities

Compensation & Schedule

  • Seasonal/Summer Internship Position
  • Flexible schedule available
  • $15 per hour
  • Approximately 20–32 hours per week
