**PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBERS are responsible for guiding the short- and long-term physical development of a community by preparing and recommending plans and ordinances, reviewing development proposals, and advising the governing body. Key duties include drafting and updating zoning ordinances and the comprehensive plan, reviewing and approving site plans, and ensuring development aligns with community goals and is in the public interest.

Core duties:

Strategic planning: Develop and recommend a comprehensive or master plan that provides a vision for future community growth.

Zoning and land use: Draft and recommend zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations to the governing body and make recommendations on proposed amendments.

Development review: Review and approve or deny site plans and other development proposals, ensuring they comply with regulations and community character.

Advisory role: Act as an advisory board to the local government, providing recommendations on development-related matters and capital improvement plans.

Community engagement: Hold public hearings and consult with community members, business owners, and other stakeholders to gather input and promote public understanding of planning issues.
